How to make Ground Control Points

This week as a class we made ground control points to use in our next few weeks of flying.  These are especially helpful for making UAS imagery more accurate when processing the data.  Therefore we met up at Dr.Hupy's house to create some out of a special type of wood.

The first step was to use the table saw to split the wood in half the long way; then cut those long pieces into smaller squares like shown in Figure 1.
Figure 1: Using the table saw to create square ground control points.
After the wood is cut we used a guard to spray paint a neon-pink triangle onto the wood.  Once this dries we flipped the guard around and did the same thing.  There was also a number added to keep track of each GCP.

Figure 2: The guard is being used on the left, and on the right is the outcome after the guard has been lifted.

Figure 3: This is the final outcome with the triangles touching and with the numbers stay painted on each.
